We are very excited to announce a brand new offering at Barks and Recreation: Social Studies Drop-In Training & Play Group.

These are going to be directed by our brand new Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner Frankie Smith. Frankie is a long time Barks employee who has many years experience officiating play groups at our dog daycare and through work and volunteering at the Trail Regional BC SPCA.

Your dog will get to play around other friendly, social dogs in a safe, professionally monitored environment. You will get to enjoy your companion having fun and getting exercise and learn about canine body language, appropriate play and how to interrupt when it is not appropriate.

We will also cover a selection of basic team building training exercises, confidence building & exploration, and body handling for the vet and groomer.

This class is perfect for shy dogs, people who want to continue to keep their dog socialized to other dogs, and those who want to get a bit of training for their dog without committing to a set class schedule.

Social Studies run most Tuesdays at 6:15pm and costs $15 per session.

For dogs 4 months and older. Puppy Preschool and Kindergarten for ages 10 weeks – 6 months run Wednesdays at 7:30.

Please bring:

– Your dog’s vet records.

– A few healthy dog treats.

– Your dog on a leash and collar/harness.

– Something from home for the dogs to explore (i.e. large hat or funny clothing, interesting child’s toy, umbrella, vacuum, bike etc.)

Dogs should be non-aggressive. If you think your dog might benefit from Social Studies, but you aren’t sure if they will qualify, contact us for info on how to get  a free evaluation.
